Alexander Hunt, a psychology senior and member of the UT Gigglepants Improv Group, announces at a Student Government meeting how the group will use their funds.

More than 50 student organizations each received up to $300 Tuesday night.

The UT Student Government appropriated about $12,000 among student groups to fund various small projects.

The organizations filled out applications about a month and a half ago asking for small monetary amounts, said English senior and SG Internal Financial Director Frankie Shulkin. Student government normally has $10,000 to spread around, but had $2,000 more this semester from rollover funds.

"The highest [amount] may be $300, and the lowest may be $175," Shulkin said. "We try to work with what [the organization's] requests are and try to meet their needs in the fairest way possible."

Leaders from each organization approached the microphone at Tuesday's meeting and gave a brief synopsis of what the appropriated funds would provide for their group.

Running of the Horns, a student organization that conducts a 5K run around campus every year, was given $225 to use for "promotional items," said the organization's representatives.

"We're very pleased with what we have received," said member and engineering senior Tim Shin.

Like the majority of student organizations, Running of the Horns will use their money for T-shirts, posters and fliers to promote their events.

"When money brings us closer to our goal of making this one of the best runs on campus, then we're happy," Shin said.
