Gov. Rick Perry reappointed three current members to the Health and Human Services Council on Thursday.

Four of the nine positions on the council are set to expire Feb. 1, 2009. Contracts for Sharon Barnes, Leon Leach and Ronald Luke were extended through Feb. 1, 2013. Perry appointed UT alumnus Jose Trevino, who replaced Fernando Trevino, to the fourth position.

Jose Trevino, a retired pharmacist and Houston resident, received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from UT and is a member of the UT Pharmaceutical Foundation Advisory Council and the UT Chancellor's Council.

The governor looks for appointees who share his views on government when selecting members for the council, said Allison Castle of the governor's press office.

The nine-member council works with the Health and Human Services Commission, a state agency that develops state health care policies and manages food stamp programs and state medicaid.

Barnes, of Lake Jackson, Texas, received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and works as the human resources leader for the Dow Chemical Company at Seadrift Operations.

Leach, a Houston resident, served in the National Guard and received a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a master's of business administration from Widener University. Leach is the executive vice president of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Luke, an Austin resident, received bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard University and a law degree from UT and serves as president of Research & Planning Consultants based in Austin.
