Early voting for the Democratic primary runoff between Travis County district attorney candidates Mindy Montford and Rosemary Lehmberg begins today.
Candidates for Railroad Commissioner are also on the ballot, and voters in some precincts will vote for County Constable in Precinct 1.
Registered voters in Travis County can vote early at any polling location in the county on weekdays from today until April 4. Election day is April 8.
Only voters who participated in the March 4 Democratic primary or voters who did not participate in either primary can cast a ballot in the runoff, according to a release by the Travis County Clerk's Office.
Montford finished the March 4 Democratic primary with 31.09 percent of the vote, and Lehmberg received 35.47 percent.
"We're very optimistic for the results on April 8," said government and public relations senior Katie Naranjo, Lehmberg's campus organizer.
Since the primary election, Lehmberg's campaigners have been phone banking, block walking, fundraising and sending mail to constituents, Naranjo said.
Montford's campaign has also continued phone banking and dropping literature at households, running a nonstop operation since March 4, said Montford campaign representative Jonathan Martinez.
Voters need to head to the polls "if they want a change in the DA office, which is what we're offering," Martinez said.
Polling booths are set up in the Flawn Academic Center lobby, Fiesta Mart Central at 38 1/2 Street and North Interstate Highway 35, Fiesta Mart at Stassney Lane and South IH-35 and the Travis County Courthouse at 1000 Guadalupe St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For additional early voting locations, visit the Travis County Clerk's Web site at http://www.co.travis.tx.us/county_clerk/default.asp.
