The three winners of the May 10 municipal election and June 14 runoff election were sworn in as Austin City Council members Wednesday evening in a ceremony in the council's chambers at city hall.
Place 1 councilman Lee Leffingwell was sworn in for his second term, Randi Shade was sworn in to replace Jennifer Kim for Place 3, and Laura Morrison was sworn in as the new Place 4 councilwoman, replacing Betty Dunkerley, who did not seek re-election.
Leffingwell, Shade and Morrison stood up to thank their campaign members, friends and family.
"Three years ago I took oath and felt privilaged and honored to earn your trust, and I feel the same now," Leffingwell said. "I thank voters for their confidence in me the second time around."
The council also selected Place 5 councilman Brewster McCracken to replace Betty Dunkerley as Austin mayor pro tem. This position is chosen based on seniority and city council experience.
The first city council meeting for the new council members will be July 24.
